    TrustNet Business Network

    juni 10, 2026 @ 8:00 am – mai 30, 2028 @ 5:00 pm CEST

TrustNet is an important network initiative to keep pace with- and capitalize on- growth opportunities related to securing technology and critical infrastructure. Whereas the market for frontier technologies (AI, IT, OT) is projected to grow rapidly from $2.5 trillion in 2023 to $16.4 trillion by 2033, and the market for AI assurance is expected to double every year (108% CAGR), TrustNet represents a significant strategic opportunity to differentiate Norwegian companies and technology ecosystems on trust.

Norway’s private sector and research institutions have the expertise required to ensure digital trust, but digital infrastructure and innovation ecosystems for data sharing and AI are fragmented across sectors and domain silos. Norway could be an ideal innovation testbed for next-generation digital infrastructure, but coordination across public and private sectors with investors and research institutions is needed to enable trust in technology, and with it, capital and procurement channels for growth.

TrustNet is supported by leading experts and stakeholders in secure IT-OT integration, including SMEs, municipalities, investors, and research partners, notably SFI NORCICS, NESIOT and the European Cluster for Securing Critical Infrastructures (ECSCI).

Akershus Fylkeskommune has provided funding to establish TrustNet as a business network, and the TrustNet Secretariat and Board of Advisors are additional grant applications to finance coordination of national and international collaborations in R&D, marketing, investment, and distribution/export of Norwegian technology and expertise over the next 3 years.

TrustNet’s members are involved in national and international R&D proposals with a total cost budget of about 680 MNOK. An already approved EU innovation project “AI-Cyber” has an estimated cost of €31 million with collaboration partners in 12 countries, and 4 use cases in Seaport Critical OT, Banking, Critical Telecommunications, and Industrial Automation OT. In addition, TrustNet members are developing proposals in Norway for use cases in Healthcare, Finance, Energy, Maritime, and Dual-Use.

Call to Action, Requirements and Benefits

    • TrustNet is calling on stakeholders, involved with critical infrastructure and digital transformation, to join the initiative and provide non-binding letters of intent (LOI) as an entry ticket to participation in upcoming project proposals, funding applications, access shared infrastructure, pilot demonstrations, networking events, and delegations to promote and export expertise and solutions for secure IT-OT integration.
    • LOIs indicate areas of interest (e.g., provide/receive expertise, tech) and will serve as a basis for planning activities, assembling consortia and task forces where applicable.
    • TrustNet will provide each partner with an overview of relevant opportunities at least annually.
    • Indicative partner financing and/or personnel and technology contributions can be applied to receive benefits of at least equivalent value (e.g., access to services, products, financing).

No obligations or payments are binding until specific activities and benefits are confirmed.

To express interest in the TrustNet initiative, please contact the TrustNet Secretariat at trustnet@venturenet.no.

For more information, feel free to contact any TrustNet representative, e.g., Christian Haukaas, Sokratis Katiskas, Habtamu Abie, and Inge Kampenes.

Insights on the European action plan on cybersecurity for hospitals and healthcare providers

    DOWNLOAD PUBLICATION

    WRITERS

Markus Kalliola (Sitra), Mikko Huovila (Nordic Healthcare Group) and Marianne Lindroth (DNV Cyber)

    PUBLISHED

    May 7, 2025

The healthcare sector is increasingly vulnerable to cyber threats due to outdated systems, fragmented practices and risks associated with human errors. Despite advancements in regulatory efforts and technical solutions, implementation remains inconsistent. Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing add both urgency and complexity to securing healthcare environments.

The EU’s expanding cybersecurity legislation is significantly impacting various sectors, including healthcare. The primary goal is to harmonise practices and enhance the resilience of critical entities, products and infrastructure. New instruments like the Directive on measures for a high common level of cybersecurity across the Union (NIS2), Cyber Resilience Act and AI Act broaden the scope of entities covered and introduce stricter requirements, raising the bar for compliance and emphasising the need for robust security in the interconnected digital landscape.

Europe has awakened to the need for taking further actions to protect healthcare. The European cybersecurity action plan for hospitals and healthcare providers, published by the European Commission in January 2025, arrives at a crucial time with several strong proposals to bolster healthcare security.

Sitra presents seven proposals for improving the preparedness of the EU and its member states against cyber threats. Building a single market for cybersecurity and making collaboration tangible through pan-European cybersecurity exercises are among the things to consider.

With all actions set to improve cybersecurity, clear targets are needed to measure the impacts. This applies to the Commission’s action plan proposals for the EU and member states, but also at the grassroots level in healthcare organisations and how cybersecurity maturity is measured and improved.

Improving cybersecurity resilience requires healthcare organisations to address all stages of cybersecurity – before, during and after incidents. Cybersecurity should be further integrated into comprehensive security, with adequate resources allocated to healthcare organisations. A well-functioning single market is part of cybersecurity resilience, and European companies must play a significant role in it.

Finland serves as a case study for how cybersecurity is organised in healthcare within an EU member state. In Finland’s comprehensive security model, cybersecurity responsibilities are distributed among various authorities. Healthcare organisations hold the primary responsibility, supported and guided by multiple authorities. Roles and responsibilities are clearly defined under normal circumstances, with the national cybersecurity strategy outlining priority actions.

    Accelopment Schweiz AG. “AI-Mind”. Accessed 13.08.2025. https://www.ai-mind.eu.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 964220. This website reflects only the author’s view and the Commission is not responsible for any use that may be made of the information it contains.

    What is the challenge?

There are over 50 million people worldwide living with dementia and by 2030 this number is expected to reach 82 million.

The ageing brain becomes vulnerable to decline and keeping independency in daily life can become a challenge for the elderly. People with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), an intermediate condition between normal brain ageing and dementia, may develop dementia in the future.

There is an urgent need for early risk assessment and intervention. Current practices with time-consuming patient investigations focus on late symptoms management  due to a lack of diagnostic tools. This causes numerous implications in terms of familial, medical and care costs.

With AI-Mind we aim to reduce the disease’s burden by developing novel, AI-based tools to support healthcare professionals in their diagnosis and offering timely interventions to patients.

At the heart of AI-Mind is our research study, that

Takes place in Norway, Finland, Italy and Spain and will involve 1,000 participants.

Helps to develop and validate artificial intelligence (AI) based tools to predict who is likely to develop dementia.

The AI-Mind project aims to ease the burden of dementia by creating innovative, AI-driven tools that assist healthcare professionals in predicting dementia risks in patients affected by mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Most dementia treatments focus on managing symptoms once they appear, leaving little room for early prevention. AI-Mind seeks to transform this process by replacing complex and inefficient screening methods with advanced, automated tools powered by AI. These tools will address the critical need for early and precise diagnosis, allowing doctors to identify patients at high risk of developing dementia with greater confidence.
